Just in case you have been living in reality instead of bizarro Trumpland, you should know: there was no racism in the US until President Obama was elected. He invented it, according to a Donald Trump for President campaign chair from Ohio.
“If you’re black and you haven’t been successful in the last 50 years, it’s your own fault. You’ve had every opportunity, it was given to you.”
Perhaps the most disgusting part of Kathy Miller’s quiet and disturbing rant is the utter refusal to accept reality. In fact, she believes that every child in the US is getting an equal education, and has the same advantages. It is just that minorities don’t use them, which is their own fault. All because of Obama’s policies.
“You’ve had the same schools everybody else went to. You had benefits to go to college that white kids didn’t have. You had all the advantages and didn’t take advantage of it. It’s not our fault, certainly.”
She believes that gun violence (dropping since the 90s) and inner city crime (also declining) are newly minted issues. Issues that never happened before and only apply to predominantly “black” communities. All because of Obama, of course.
Miller also dismissed the racial tensions of the 1960s, when she said she graduated from high school. “Growing up as a kid, there was no racism, believe me. We were just all kids going to school.”
Asked about segregation and the civil rights movement, she replied: “I never experienced it. I never saw that as anything.”
It is as if this woman has lived in a sheltered, upper-middle-class, white, privileged position her whole life. She holds no sympathy for those born without the same advantages she has had. And, indeed, doesn’t even see aware of them. In fact, in her opinion, in the last 50 years there have been “three generations” of African Americans and they are all still having “unwed babies” and not “taking responsibility for how they live” even though they have gotten, according to Miller, more advantages than white people.
However, there has been no racism, at all, especially not in the real estate industry. Just ask her. An awkward position considering Donald Trump was sued by the Justice Department in the 70s for not renting to people of color. Would she consider that racism? Was that also somehow Obama’s fault, too?
The vitriol flowing from this woman’s mouth is the perfect frame for the Trump campaign. Bigoted and ignorant.
