Well, Donald Trump has inserted his foot in his mouth once again but this time, it’s far more serious than the stupidity of months past. During a campaign event in Wilmington, North Carolina the Republican presidential candidate suggested that the “Second Amendment” people are the only ones who will be able to stop Hillary Clinton if she wins in November. The backlash was swift and one by one lawmakers and pundits slammed Trump for his obvious threat to kill Hillary. The billionaire isn’t bothered by it, though, instead, he is reveling in the controversy he created.

During an interview with Sean Hannity, Trump claimed the threat on Hillary’s life was good for his campaign:
I have to say, in terms of politics, there is few things, and I happen to think that if [the media] did even bring this up, I think it’s good for me. Because it’s going to tell people more about me with respect to the Second Amendment…because Hillary Clinton wants to essentially abolish the Second Amendment.
In other words, by calling on people to assassinate Clinton if she wins the election, the gun nuts will know that he is on their side and they will be even more vocal in their support for him. The vapid ammosexual base of the GOP loves nothing more than when people threaten to kill those of us who believe in gun control. This is because the Republican Party and the NRA have spent years telling their supporters that gun control (what Hillary wants) equals the abolishment of the Second Amendment. Right-wing lawmakers know that this is bullshit, but they also know that fear is the easiest way to get their voters to go to the polls.

However, Trump took this to a whole new level yesterday. Never, in modern history (possibly all of history) has it ever been acceptable for a presidential candidate to threaten the life of their opponent and get away with it — until Donald Trump.
We recognize that there are some Democrats who are still unsure about whether or not they want to vote for Hillary, but you have to ask yourselves: is this the kind of country you want your kids to grow up in? One that accepts a nominee for president who threatens people’s lives when they realize they are losing?
