In 2000, an episode of The Simpsons titled “Bart to the Future” aired showing a version of America gone insane, with Lisa Simpson as the incoming president who inherited a disaster of epic proportions from President Donald Trump.
Here’s a short clip of that episode, and it’s every bit as frightening as the reality we are facing right now:
When asked about the episode, writer Dan Greaney had this to say:
It was a warning to America. [It] just seemed like the last logical step before hitting bottom. It was pitched because it was consistent with the vision of America going insane.
The important thing is that Lisa comes into the presidency when America is on the ropes and that is the condition left by the Trump presidency. What we needed was for Lisa to have problems that were beyond her fixing, that everything went as bad as it possibly could, and that’s why we had Trump be president before her.”
Now, 16 years later, it appears that Dan Greaney is a little psychic in the worst way and in the show opener Sunday night, during Bart’s famous chalkboard scene, Greaney tells us how he really feels.
