Almost everyone agrees that Ted Cruz is one of the biggest liars out of the entire liars’ parade known as the Republican presidential candidates. And now his lies have gotten so outrageous that he can’t even get a pass in the friendly confines of Fox News.
Everybody knows that Cruz hates Obamacare, and he goes out of his way to tell people that if elected, he will do away with it, totally and completely. That position caused him some problems on Saturday night when he was confronted by an Iowa voter who told the Canadian Texas senator that his brother-in-law had been helped by the Affordable Care Act. The man wanted to know what Cruz intended for a replacement.
In a perfect non-answer answer, Cruz told the man:
Under Obamacare, millions of Americans have lost their jobs. Millions of Americans have lost their doctors, have seen their premiums skyrocket. That is happening all across this country.
Cruz made the same claim, which has become one of his standard lines, in Thursday night’s GOP debate. Politifact destroyed Cruz’s assertion that Obamacare has cost millions of jobs in a fact check on Friday, giving Cruz’s statement a “Pants On Fire” rating.
Politifact looked at data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, and came to this conclusion:
Not only has the number of jobs gone up, but the number of unwilling part-timers has gone down.
Going even further, Politifact added the following details:
All of the job numbers have moved in a positive direction since April 2010, the first full month after President Barack Obama signed the bill into law. The unemployment rate has moved steadily from 9.9 percent to 5 percent. The economy has added about 10.7 million jobs. And the number of working people who have part-time work but would rather have full-time work has fallen by nearly 3 million.
Cruz probably felt like he was on friendly territory when he sat down to talk to Chris Wallace on Fox News Sunday, but he apparently forgot that Wallace is one of the few at Fox who has a bit of journalistic integrity. So he probably wasn’t very pleased with this exchange that took place during the interview:
Chris Wallace: But senator, the fact checkers say you’re wrong. Since that law went into effect, the unemployment rate fell from 9.9 percent to 5 percent as 13 million new jobs were created and 16.3 million people who were previously uninsured now have coverage. Now don’t get me wrong, there are plenty of problems with Obamacare, but more people have jobs and health insurance than they did before Obamacare.
Ted Cruz: Chris, the media fact checkers are not fair and impartial. They are liberal, editorial journalists and they made it their mission to defend….
Wallace: There’s certainly no question that more people have jobs and more people have health insurance coverage.
Cruz: Yes, there is question. Number one, we have the lowest percentage of Americans working today of any year since 1977. That’s a fact.
Wallace: Out there have been 13 million jobs created, sir. That’s a fact.
Cruz: The fact is that from 2008 to today, we’ve seen economic growth of 1.2 percent on average….
Cruz gets visibly annoyed at Wallace, and basically tells him to shut up. How dare someone from Fox News challenge the lies of a Republican?!?!
