Texas Senator and Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz gave $25,000 to GOP State Rep. candidate Kyle Biedermann to support his race against an incumbent Republican state representative.
Biedermann markets himself as a “conservative Christian” candidate who would like to represent district 73. Here’s how he describes himself on his website.
As a Christian and a conservative Republican I am entering the race for State Representative in the great district covering Gillespie, Comal and Kendall counties. We need a conservative and dutiful citizen legislator to protect us, not a career politician.
My campaign will be grassroots, positive and focused solely on the issues that affect the hardworking people and seniors in this district like rising property taxes, water conservation, the second amendment, unfunded state mandates on our schools, over regulation and higher taxes on our businesses and our God given private property rights.
So by day Biedermann is “dutiful citizen legislator”, but by night, he’s this.

Biedermann was attending a Fredricksburg food pantry charity costume party several years ago when he took that photo. The candidate explained to Express-News why he chose to delete the photo from his social media. He said because “my opponent, they would, you know, you know how it is, people are going to take it out of context.”
Biedermann said the costume was inspired by this Saturday Night Live skit from 2001.
Biedermann just didn’t understand what all the fuss was about.
What would be offensive about that photograph?” Biedermann asked, according to the Express-News. “This whole thing is about political correctness. It’s not a problem for me whatsoever.
The candidate explained the photo to one constituent via email, he wrote:
Thanks for your interest in my campaign,” he wrote. “The explanation is simple. This was a fundraiser for the Food Pantry and the Needs Counsel with about 400 people with a SNL theme … The costumes are supposed to be outrageous and Mine certainly was. Gay Hitler was a SNL character from the show which of coarse (sic) is a spoof.”He added in the email, “I am not gay and never have been. Don’t know anything about Swingers Clubs and no desire to find out. I have an amazing wife.
Of course, Biedermann blames his opponent for this mess.
It’s only a problem because somebody is running against me and is trying to hurt my character,” Biedermann said. “It was never a problem before … My opponent wants to do sleaze things. This is what people hate about politics.
You know what people REALLY hate about politics, Mr. Biedermann? Conservative politicians who decry LGBT rights but dress up like “Gay Hitler” because they think it’s funny.
