Many people think that cable news has become boring and predictable. But, NBC’s Saturday Night Live May have found an explanation.
On Saturday, SNL featured a skit in which a cast member, playing CNN’s Anderson Cooper, questioned other cast members playing the parts of pundits Van Jones, Kayleigh McEnany, Gloria Borger, David Axelrod, and Dana Bash.
Every time Cooper would ask the panel for their input on new breaking Donald Trump scandals their reactions began to take on an eerie deja vu quality that you just couldn’t quite put your finger on.
It’s easy to laugh at the cable news’ broken record coverage of Trump’s scandals, but keep in mind; there has never been a candidate like Trump.
Back in pre-Trump America, the media might have one or two scandals a week to chew on that involved a Republican politician saying or doing something outrageous. And they became known for fixating their coverage around that scandal until they sucked it dry of all its ratings potential.
However, when the Trump campaign came along, it’s like he overloaded cable news with scandals until they became like children who ate too much candy at Halloween.
Finding new ways to be outraged by scandals involving Trump can be exhausting, and we haven’t even gotten started yet.
Perhaps robots wouldn’t be such a bad idea.
