Senator Bob Corker of Tennessee has zero fucks left to give about what people think of his opinion of Trump. Earlier this week, he called the White House an “adult day care center” and said someone missed their shift there. Corker, who is probably too “establishment” for the likes of Trump, is actually most upset about Trump “publicly castrating” his own Secretary of Defense, because it backs us into a corner: Do we go to war against Iran and North Korea, or do we let them threaten us?
Corker said, point-blank:
“You cannot publicly castrate your own secretary of state without giving yourself that binary choice.”
Corker believes that Trump telling Tillerson that he was wasting his time with North Korea undercut our foreign relations efforts:
“When you jack the legs out from under your chief diplomat, you cause all that to fall apart. Us working with [Beijing] effectively is the key to not getting to a binary choice. When you publicly castrate your secretary of state, you take that off the table.”
Trump must have been absent from school the day they taught politicians how not to undermine their own staff’s efforts. He challenged Tillerson to an IQ test after rumors leaked that Tillerson had called him a “fucking moron.” He said that Tillerson’s pursuit of diplomatic solutions to the problem of North Korea were a massive waste of time.
Corker apparently regards Tillerson as one of Trump’s greater assets. Considering that Tillerson isn’t the one tweeting all day and night in a way that could bring Kim Jong Un, North Korea’s dictator, to lash out against us, Corker might just have a point. There are very few sane people in this administration.
He’s right – you don’t publicly castrate your top people like Trump does. Time for someone to put Liddle Trump back to bed.
