Sarah Palin wants to take a bit of a demotion from the last time she ran for a political office. Instead of being a bad choice for vice president, she wants to be Donald Trump’s bad choice for Secretary of Energy.
Why? Who knows. Maybe she can see oil wells from her porch.
Interestingly, Palin also wants to get rid of the department entirely — perhaps so she can quit that job too.
This is what she said to CNN:
I think a lot about the Department of Energy, because energy is my baby: oil and gas and minerals, those things that God has dumped on this part of the Earth for mankind’s use instead of us relying on unfriendly foreign nations.
I’d get rid of it. And I’d let the states start having more control over the lands that are within their boundaries and the people who are affected by the developments within their states. If I were in charge of that, it would be a short-term job, but it would be really great to have someone who knows energy and is pro-responsible development to be in charge.
Here’s the video:
As Vox notes, Palin doesn’t even seem to know what the Department of Energy does! Federal lands are managed by the Department of Interior, and I’m sure she wants to get rid of that too (so can sell all the national parks to China).
The Department of Energy is in charge of nuclear energy and research and development. Of course, knowing that would require reading, and we all know that’s not her strong suit.
