There’s just something ever-so-satisfying about watching the RNC try to rearrange the deck chairs on the Titanic known as Donald Trump.
Trump’s relationship with Ohio GOP Chairman Matt Borges has always been one of mutual contempt. Given the amount of disrespect Trump showed failed Republican presidential candidate and current Governor of Ohio, John Kasich, Borges has defended his governor while openly criticizing Donald Trump
“We’re dealing with a presidential candidate that is openly hostile toward the governor,” said Matt Borges, chairman of the Ohio Republican Party. Borges also said that he wasn’t sure he would even vote for him.
But Borges’s wife seemed unhappy that her husband was taking half-measures. Kate Borges was so utterly disgusted by Trump’s “locker room” comments and anti-woman behavior that she simply couldn’t stomach him. In fact, she says the couple’s dog vomited at the sight of Trump during last Sunday’s second debate. Trump appears to have been personally offended.
On Saturday, Bob Paduchik, a GOP strategist who is directing Trump’s campaign in the crucial swing state, wrote an angry letter to Ohio’s Republican Party committee informing them that Matt Borges, the state GOP chairman, “does not represent or speak for the candidate and he no longer has any affiliation with the Trump-Pence campaign.”
“I spoke with Mr. Trump on Thursday and he is very disappointed in Matt’s duplicity. Mr. Trump told me, ‘this is why people have lost faith in the establishment and party leaders.’ I have to agree with him. Too often some leaders of our party have been quick to bail on our party and our principles; it’s why our nation is on the wrong track.”
This is truly unprecedented. When has a struggling GOP presidential candidate decided to cut ties with leaders of an all-important swing state? This just shows the Republican Party will likely need to use fire to cleanse themselves of Donald Trump, assuming there’s even a party left.
