Nobody has ever accused Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach of being the brightest bulb. He’s also a national leader in the fight against immigration reform, as legal council for the Immigration Law Reform Institute, which is the legal wing of conservative anti-immigration group FAIR (Federation for American Immigration Reform).
He played a role in the formation and passing of Arizona’s highly controversial SB 1070, an incredibly racist immigration reform law that was mostly struck down by the Supreme Court. This time, when a caller expressed his fears of ethnic cleansing during an edition of Kobach’s talk radio show, he had to admit he thinks it’s within the realm of possibility.
Here’s the audio clip, thanks to Right Wing Watch:
Caller: What happens, if you know your history, when one culture or one race or one religion overwhelms another culture or race? What happens?
Kobach: Depends on what you mean by “overwhelms.”
Caller: Well, in numbers. This is what La Raza knows, and the other Spanish rights groups that are actually calling for the return of the Spanish territory, which could be almost half the United States. When Saudi Arabia — no Christians in Saudi Arabia, just the Muslims, Arabian sect. Bosnia — there’s ethnic cleansing in Lebanon right now — Egypt — as I just mentioned, Bosnia — when one race or culture overwhelms another culture, they run them out or they kill them. And it’s a bigger issue than just being Democrats. And they know in numbers, once the numbers are so vast, they can pretty much do whatever they want to do.
Kobach: And here’s an interesting — not a counterpoint, but an interesting additional point to that — what protects us in America from any kind of ethnic cleansing is the rule of law. And the rule of law used to be unassailable, used to be taken for granted in America. And now, of course, we have a President who disregards the law when it suits his interests. And so, while I normally would answer that by saying, ‘Steve, of course we have the rule of law, that could never happen in America,’ I wonder what could happen. I still don’t think it’s gonna happen in America, but I have to admit, things are strange and they’re happening.
Earlier in the program, he described a rising Hispanic population as “a locked-in vote for socialism.” So, socialist Hispanics are coming, they’re going to kill us, and it’s all because Obama. All I can say is…
