Colorado Representative and religious nut, Gordon Klingenschmitt, has developed a replacement for the Affordable Care Act: Trust in God. Seriously. Just trust in God and keep his commandments, and you won’t get sick. If you don’t get sick, you won’t need healthcare, so problem solved!
“He said, ‘If you listen carefully to the Lord your God and do what is right in his eyes, if you pay attention to his commands and keep all his decrees, I will not bring on you any of the diseases I brought on the Egyptians, for I am the Lord, who heals you.’”
Then he went on to say:
“Isn’t that inspiring? I personally prefer to look to almighty God as my healer and not to the government as a substitute god or substitute healer.”
Then he prayed:
“Father in Heaven, we turn away from the idolatry that so many have in their hearts, that they think government is a better healer than Jesus. But, Jesus, we know you are the healer.”
Wow! It’s so simple! If we all trust in God and Jesus, we’ll all be fine for all eternity! Why didn’t anybody think of that before?
Oh, wait, the big, bad gummint didn’t think of that because it doesn’t work. The religious right can throw accusations and blame for why it doesn’t work all day, but the bottom line is, it doesn’t work. What about all the people who aren’t Christian? They deserve to get sick and die?
But this guy doesn’t think about people who aren’t Christian. He thinks God and Jesus are so utterly supreme that they would overrule the Supreme Court on DOMA and Prop 8, and throw members of the LGBT community in hell for their so-called sins.
He also believes that demonic spirits inhabit lawmakers who support LGBT rights. Klingenschmitt is outspoken in his hatred of the LGBT community, saying things like:
“The ultimate hate speech is to endorse homosexuality.”
Based on some of his other nonsense, it shouldn’t come as much of a surprise that, in turning to healthcare, he would say that just believing in God means you’ll never need healthcare. So begone, gummint, and let us get healed the right way, right now!
