The other shoe just dropped.
For weeks Trump and his administration have been swearing up and down that they had no contact with the Russian government while the election was happening. Now, with a bombshell report filed by the Washington Post, that lie is disintegrating before the nation’s eyes.
Trump’s Attorney General has been caught committing perjury. During his confirmation hearing, he lied under oath about speaking with the Russian ambassador twice while the foreign country was busy hacking into the emails of Democrats in order to throw the election to his boss Donald Trump.
Needless to say, that offense should start with Sessions’ resignation, but shouldn’t end there. Investigations need to be done. No stone should be left unturned. The entire administration should be viewed with skepticism until an independent team of investigators can determine the extent of the criminality. How deep does this go? Or as one former Obama aide aptly put it:
The question isn't if Sessions lied, it's why he lied?

Why, indeed.
So far Sessions is hunkering down. He has excused his perjury as both a harmless mistake and also something he “forgot” about. He is showing every sign of attempting to cling to power until he’s forced out. And that may be happening sooner than he realizes.
Congressman Elijah Cummings, ranking member of House Oversight Committee, has already released a fiery letter demanding Sessions resign. And that’s not all.

The real “boom” moment is the strong call for a “truly independent commission” to investigate. It’s the most important piece given the fact that Trump and his goons have shown every sign of covering each other’s tracks in this constantly worsening scandal. Until people outside of the administration can investigate, nothing they say can be trusted.
