Prosecutor Says Viral Story About Syrian Refugees Raping 5-Year-Old Is 100 Percent False (VIDEO)

The right-wing fear machine has been in high gear for months, warning Americans of the “dangers” posed by Syrian refugees. Anti-Islamic bigotry has been over the top, with claims that there is a rape epidemic in both the U.S. and Europe, thanks to young Muslim men. In February, Britain’s Independent newspaper reported that refugees have been responsible for only a small number of sex crimes in Germany, which has taken in many more Syrians and other Middle Easterners than has the U.S. But the right has seized on incidents such as the well-publicized assaults in Cologne last New Year’s Eve as “proof” that Muslims are attacking and raping women in record numbers.

Over the past few days some right-wing sites and social media pages have been sharing the shocking story of an alleged gang rape committed by Syrian refugees against a 5-year-old girl in Idaho. Info Wars, run by serial fabricator Alex Jones, reported the incident this way on June 20:

Three Syrian refugees reportedly raped a little girl at knifepoint in Idaho before urinating on her body, an incident that prompted furious residents to accuse Twin Falls city council members of covering up the assault.

The sexual assault allegedly took place on June 2, but has received virtually no media attention aside from one vague KMVT report.

Jones’ site apparently got the information from the anti-Muslim blog Creeping Sharia. Here’s how an anonymous resident quoted on the blog claims the alleged crime took place:

The little girl being born very premature she is less developed for her age.

The little girl was at the FAWNBROOK apartment buildings where both her parents and grandmother reside.  She was playing in between those two apartment units when 3 boys (from 2 Syrian refugee families, ages 8, 10, 13)  pulled a knife on her, held it to her throat, forced her into the laundry unit, stripped her naked, raped, and urinated on her.  The 13 year old ‘coached’ the younger boys as he videoed. Due to age restraint the boys could not ejaculate but did urinate on her.

THE VICTIM’S GRANDMOTHER DISCOVERED THE SITUATION AND IMMEDIATELY CALLED THE VICTIM’S MOTHER WHO CALLED TWIN FALLS POLICE DEPARTMENT.

The victim’s mother took the video/phone from the 13 year old. Witnessed by the victims mother:

The 13 year olds father arrived on the scene and hi-fived his son. A mother of the perps arrived and knew only enough English to repeatedly say, ‘No police.’

Grant Loebs is the Republican prosecutor for Twin Falls County and he says that none of the above is true.

On Monday morning Loebs told the Idaho Statesman“There were no Syrians involved, there was no knife involved, there was no gang-rape.”

Loebs didn’t stop there. He continued:

There is a small group of people in Twin Falls County whose life goal is to eliminate refugees, and thus far they have not been constrained by the truth. They have not been constrained by the truth in the past, and I don’t expect them to be constrained by the truth in the future.

According to Loebs, yes, an assault did occur and it was apparently recorded on a cell phone. But he says that other than that minor detail, nothing in the stories being circulated is accurate.

Twin Falls Police Chief Craig Kingsbury briefed a city council meeting on the incident. According to his report, the boys involved in the alleged assault range in age from 7 to 14, and are from Iraq and Sudan. Kingsbury backed up Loebs’ statement that there was no knife and no rape took place. He added that only one of the three boys actually touched the girl. Kingsbury also said there is no evidence to support the claim that the father of one of the boys “high fived” him for committing the alleged assault.

And another right-wing lie goes down in flames. But what are poor righties to do? How else can you win people to your side, except with half-truths and lies, when the full truth doesn’t fit the story you want to tell?
