Fans think Donald Trump’s off-the-cuff, “I don’t need no speech writer,” tell-it-like-it-is style is refreshing. However, saying what you think without first running it through any sort of filter can come back and bite you in the ass. Case in point: Donald Trump’s latest gaffe at an NBC-sponsored political town hall in New Hampshire this weekend.
A republican voter asked him the following question: “With the exception of your family, have you ever been told no?”
You’d think Trump would pause to reflect on how his response would sound to the populace. But no. Trump blurted out:
My whole life really has been a ‘no’ and I fought through it. It has not been easy for me, it has not been easy for me. And you know I started off in Brooklyn, my father gave me a small loan of a million dollars.
Jaw dropping, isn’t it? Not since Mitt Romney’s 47 percent remark has a candidate so skillfully distanced himself from a majority of the electorate.
Trump attempted to clarify his comments (obviously realizing that what he said would not resonate with most of the registered voters in America), but only dug the hole deeper when he said a MILLION DOLLAR LOAN from his father might seem easy to most people, but,
a million dollars isn’t very much compared to what I’ve built.
Let’s pause in stunned silence while that washes over us.
At this campaign event, Trump took questions from just twelve attendees who were a mix of supporters and undecided voters. Questions ranged on topics from ISIS to immigration to Russia and the economy. It became obvious that not all voters were content with his answers, including one who pressed him on whether voters should simply believe he would revive the economy based on his last name. His answer?
I think they should.
When asked for specifics by the 21-year-old student, Trump said “flexibility in dealmaking” was important and that multi-point plans were “unnecessary.”
It doesn’t work that way because point two gets loused up and you have to go to a different point two,” Trump said. “It doesn’t mean anything.
This pompous, narcissistic demagogue has NO business attempting to lead this country.
