Not even halfway through the first segment of the Presidential debates and Donald Trump has pulled a classic “No I didn’t.”
Talking about bringing in new jobs, Hillary Clinton noted that Trump does not believe in climate change:
“Donald thinks that climate change is a hoax perpetrated by the Chinese…”
At that, Trump interrupted her (again), saying that he never said that.
Let’s look at the facts. This tweet from 2012 for a start, where he explicitly says the Chinese invented climate change:
The concept of global warming was created by and for the Chinese in order to make U.S. manufacturing non-competitive.

Called on this on the January 18, 2016 edition of Fox & Friends, Trump tried to explain it away:
“Well, I think the climate change is just a very, very expensive form of tax. A lot of people are making a lot of money. I know much about climate change. I’d be — received environmental awards. And I often joke that this is done for the benefit of China. Obviously, I joke. But this is done for the benefit of China, because China does not do anything to help climate change.”
So China benefits from climate change? That’s a joke? Not very funny.
Trump is also on record saying that he would “cancel the Paris Climate Agreement.” And has hired one of the top climate change deniers to lead the EPA if, gods forbid, he should win. This man says that climate change is “nothing to worry about.”
When asked last March if he believed if climate change was real, Trump told Fred Hiatt of the Washington Post:
“I think there’s a change in weather. I am not a great believer in man-made climate change. I’m not a great believer. There is certainly a change in weather that goes — if you look, they had global cooling in the 1920s and now they have global warming, although now they don’t know if they have global warming. They call it all sorts of different things; now they’re using “extreme weather” I guess more than any other phrase. I am not — I know it hurts me with this room, and I know it’s probably a killer with this room — but I am not a believer. Perhaps there’s a minor effect, but I’m not a big believer in man-made climate change.”
It’s safe to say that Donald Trump does not believe that climate change is a threat. He doesn’t take seriously the warnings from scientists. He is not someone we want in control of this country and its response to this global threat.
