President Obama allowed Extra anchor Jerry Penacoli to interview him in the White House Rose Garden. Turns out President Obama literally saved Penacoli’s life.
Before the Affordable Care Act (also known as Obamacare) was implemented, Penacoli was facing some tough choices about his personal health. He had stage 3 melanoma and the early stages of thyroid cancer. If the health care law was not in place then Penacoli would have hit his “lifetime limit” on his insurance coverage, and he would have had to face a long illness and, perhaps, death or financial ruin.
This all while the Supreme Court is debating whether they will overturn parts of the Affordable Care Act. According to Time, it’s just a matter of wording and how it’s being interpreted. But if the Supreme Court rules against the current legislation then “6.4 million people in the 34 states that rely on the federal HealthCare.gov marketplace instead of running their own healthcare markets” will lose $1.7billion monthly tax subsidies.
Of course, this was spearheaded by the GOP, whose red states would be the most adversely affected. Which, of course, they would blame on President Obama instead of telling their constituents the truth. Below is a map (and here is a link to that map, which is interactive) that shows which states would be impacted:
