President Obama slammed the GOP’s refusal to ban suspected terrorists from purchasing guns, during his weekly address.
Right now, people on the No-Fly list can walk into a store and buy a gun. That is insane. If you’re too dangerous to board a plane, you’re too dangerous, by definition, to buy a gun. And so I’m calling on Congress to close this loophole, now. We may not be able to prevent every tragedy, but — at a bare minimum — we shouldn’t be making it so easy for potential terrorists or criminals to get their hands on a gun that they could use against Americans.
Less than twenty-four hours after the worst mass shooting since the 2012 Sandy Hook massacre that left twenty children dead, Republicans in the Senate voted down two gun control measures. One of the measures would have prevented suspected terrorists from buying guns and the second would have enacted universal background checks. Republicans, though, even after more mass shootings this year than days, don’t think we need gun control measures.
More proof that the GOP cares more about lobbyists than they do about the people they are sworn to represent.
