Mike Huckabee took to Facebook Friday morning to pen a gushy letter defending Josh Duggar’s admitted molestation of young girls, including his own sisters.
Huckabee couldn’t help but defend the Duggars, bastions of bigotry and ignorance, because they’re Christians, making all of their actions excusable in the eyes of God.
Here’s Huckabee’s ridiculous post, with a bit of commentary added for good measure:
Janet and I want to affirm our support for the Duggar family. Josh’s actions when he was an underage teen are as he described them himself, ‘inexcusable,’ but that doesn’t mean ‘unforgivable.’ He and his family dealt with it and were honest and open about it with the victims and the authorities.
No, they weren’t. They brought the matter to the attention of a detective who is now serving 56 years for child pornography, got him counseled at church, declared that God had forgiven him and swept it under the rug. Otrherwise why would Josh have resigned as soon as the story leaked?
No purpose whatsoever is served by those who are now trying to discredit Josh or his family by sensationalizing the story. Good people make mistakes and do regrettable and even disgusting things. The reason that the law protects disclosure of many actions on the part of a minor is that the society has traditionally understood something that today’s blood-thirsty media does not understand—that being a minor means that one’s judgement is not mature.
Minors are charged with crimes all the time. They are also tried as adults if the crime is heinous enough. What you’re saying, Governor, is that we should forego the prosecution of teenagers because they are immature.
Sometimes it’s best to think before speaking or typing.
No one needs to defend Josh’s actions as a teenager, but the fact that he confessed his sins to those he harmed, sought help, and has gone forward to live a responsible and circumspect life as an adult is testament to his family’s authenticity and humility. Those who have enjoyed revealing this long ago sins in order to discredit the Duggar family have actually revealed their own insensitive bloodthirst, for there was no consideration of the fact that the victims wanted this to be left in the past and ultimately a judge had the information on file destroyed—not to protect Josh, but the innocent victims.
Someone needs to notify the Hague and Interpol that we no longer need to search for Hitler’s henchmen that got away. Those sins were from a long time ago, and surely they’ve repented.
The notion that a crime disappears or that justice should be sidelined because the Duggars had evidence destroyed. Yes, the Duggars acted on behalf of the victims, not the victims. The victims were too young to make that decision, or is your “immaturity” argument no longer valid?
Janet and I love Jim Bob and Michelle and their entire family. They are no more perfect a family than any family, but their Christian witness is not marred in our eyes because following Christ is not a declaration of our perfection, but of HIS perfection. It is precisely because we are all sinners that we need His grace and His forgiveness. We have been blessed to receive God’s love and we would do no less than to extend our love and support for our friends.
God is good, Christ is perfect. God, God, God; anything can be forgiven and/or forgotten if you say “God” enough times. We’re glad that you and your wife love Jim Bob and Michelle, Governor. We’re glad that you’re willing to be too blind to see your own ignorance, and we love the votes you’ll lose (not that you had many to begin with) because you have now openly affirmed not only your support, but your love for an admitted child molester.
In fact, it is such times as this, when real friends show up and stand up. Today, Janet and I want to show up and stand up for our friends. Let others run from them. We will run to them with our support.
Yes, it is always like that with the Christian right. You will defend each other until kingdom come, because deep down you are the worst any religion has to offer.
You are intolerant, bigoted, ignorant wretches who hate the poor, ignore the teachings of the man you follow for your own personal and financial gain, value life at all costs unless that life is a convict or a Muslim, and feel you need to step in and interject your religious views into our lives, our schools, and our government.
Your complete and utter failure is now complete, Governor Huckabee; please go away.
Don’t go away mad, just go away.
