On Tuesday night’s edition of The Kelly File, host Megyn Kelly had former House Speaker Newt Gingrich on to talk about the election. He got a bit distracted and Kelly showed that when she does stand up for herself, she can kick butt.
Kelly asked about a new Cook poll that shows the Republicans will likely lose the Senate. Does this suggest that the GOP put the wrong guy at the top of the ticket, she asks Gingrich.
He, being a Trump supporter won’t go there. He maintains that Republicans are outvoting Democrats in early voting. This is not supported by the numbers, which say that Democrats are turning out in greater numbers in swing states. But this discrepancy is due to “Two universes,” according to Newt.
When Kelly asks if the possibility of Trump being a sexual predator could be affecting his numbers, Newt got miffed. He said that the allegations “are not true.”
Kelly, like an actual journalist, pointed out that he did not know for a fact that the allegations aren’t true. Newt blamed Kelly for “using inflammatory language.” But she had an answer for that:
“I think your defensiveness on this may speak volumes, Sir.”
Kelly then laid out the facts about Trump being a sexual predator. She did a good job of it, too. But Newt still thinks that 23 minutes is too much time to devote to Trump’s sexual misadventures when Hillary Clinton is giving secret speeches in Brazil. Kelly replied that they did cover the Clinton story. But that’s not good enough for Newt. He told Kelly:
“You are fascinated with sex and you don’t care about public policy.”

After that, you could see that Kelly was getting steamed. But she held it together really well. She calmly explained that she is fascinated with “protecting women.” At this, Newt took the opportunity to bring up Bill Clinton.
Now, this is not a place Newt ought to go. Not with the fact that Newt was cheating on his first wife. Who was in the hospital fighting cancer. He argued with her about the terms of their divorce while she was recovering from surgery. Then he married his mistress. Then, he dumped her for a younger woman. Newt Gingrich is not the man who should be complaining about Bill Clinton’s transgressions.
Kelly tried to shut him down, saying that they had also covered that story. But Newt stayed with this new track, trying to get Kelly to say the words “Bill Clinton sexual predator.” Kelly was obviously at the end of her rope as Newt rattled on about Bill, interrupting Kelly, who was trying to get a word in edgewise. She finally was able to get out the fact that Americans are more concerned with the allegations about Trump than they are about Bill’s past peccadilloes. But she was done with Newt.
“We’ll have to leave it at that. And you can take your anger issues and spend some time working on them, Mr. Speaker.”
Ouch! Newt’s going to need some ointment for that burn! You can almost imagine Kelly’s relief at being able to drop the smile. I’m sure there was some colorful language on both sides of that after the cameras were off. But it sure was nice to see Megyn Kelly stand up to that pig Newt Gingrich. Sometimes she does manage to get it right.
