Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell managed to provide another stunning example of his own shameless hypocrisy on Sunday when he slammed Democrats for not handing Republicans a blank check to confirm all of Trump’s (terrifying) cabinet nominations.
“The Democrats are really frustrated that they lost the election,” he told CBS’s “Face the Nation,” adding that he was in a similar situation eight years ago when President Obama took office.
“What did we do? We confirmed seven Cabinet appointments the day President Obama was sworn in. We didn’t like most of them, either. But he won the election,” McConnell said. “So all of these little procedural complaints are related to their frustration at having not only lost the White House, but having lost the Senate. I understand that. But we need to, sort of, grow up here and get past that.”
What McConnell left out during his whine session was the fact that at the time when he was feeling “really frustrated” that America chose Barack Obama he was publicly telling the country that his only mission in office was to see that the new Democratic president lasted only one term. (He failed.)
He also left the part where he told a rally during the 2016 campaign that one of his “proudest moments” in his career was unconstitutionally blocking Obama’s Supreme Court justice nomination purely because it would have allowed Obama to place a Democrat on the bench.
And the nominees McConnell want Democrats to agree to haven’t even been vetted. As recently as two days ago, the Office of Government Ethics published an open letter warning that Republicans were attempting to ram through picks that had not sent in their required financial disclosures. This would be troubling with any nominee, but many of Trump’s picks are men and women heavily invested in shady foreign businesses, banks, and at least one has been suspected of accepting bribes (from Trump himself). If any group needs serious scrutiny it’s this bunch.
Currently, only 8 of Mr. Trump's appointees have submitted financial disclosures. https://t.co/qR1nx47IyD

The hypocrisy is staggering – and entirely unsurprising.
For years, the Republican Party have neglected to do their jobs as elected representatives of the people in order to spend all of their time intentionally throwing a wrench in the cogs of government to screw over Obama’s legacy. Thankfully, it largely didn’t work. Despite shutting down the government and trying to repeal the healthcare of millions of Americans over fifty times, Republicans failed at every turn.
Now, however, they control majorities in both the House and Senate and their president is Donald Trump a man so caught up in his own ego that he doesn’t seem willing or even capable of stopping Republicans victimize millions of Americans with a radical right-wing agenda built on tax cuts to the rich and the destruction of the social safety net that allows poorer Americans to get by.
