Louie Gohmert (R-TX) is not the smartest Congresscritter we’ve got, and he’s getting crazier it seems. This latest schtick of his has to do with terrorism and President Obama, who he claims has brought massive numbers of terrorists into the country for the sole purpose of taking away our right to keep and bear arms. Maybe we’ll finally see that gun grab that righties have been warning us would happen for the past seven years.
While he was guest-hosting the Family Research Council’s “Washington Watch” show, he unleashed what is possibly the least coherent string of babble ever. At one point, he was railing specifically against refugees, and he said:
Refugees that have been allowed in the country, some of whom are violent terrorists, and they’ve been let in the country, and then when they do some act of violence, we’re told, and I know they haven’t said these words but basically by the position the administration is taking, they’re saying, ‘Yep, we’ve let all of these terrorists, these criminals come into the middle of our country, so all of you law-abiding citizens are going to have to give up your Second Amendment rights because I’ve let all these terrorists in; we can’t let terrorists go in and buy guns so we need to be really restrictive.’
These right-wing nutjobs see any attempt at all to regulate guns, even sensibly, as a direct attack on the Second Amendment. It’s the first step towards government tyranny in their warped minds. They keep selling this fear, and it’s why it’s so easy for even criminals to legally purchase guns here.
In fact, the Senate just passed an Obamacare repeal, but wouldn’t accept a bill that kept people on the terror watch lists from buying guns. Why? Because it could deprive law-abiding Americans who don’t belong on the watch lists from buying guns. Trying to repeal Obamacare and defund Planned Parenthood is more important to them than even making an attempt at addressing our problems with gun violence.
Now, we have a totally incoherent Louie Gohmert going on the radio and spouting off this bizarre conspiracy theory. It’s a wonder he didn’t say outright that Obama engineered all these mass shootings as false flags to justify taking all the guns away from all the good, god-fearing American patriots. The GOP is too paranoid for words, and its Tea Party wing is the worst thing that’s ever happened to us.
