Josh Duggar’s Dad Once Said Rape And Incest Should Be Punishable By Death (IMAGES)

When Jim Bob Duggar, then known as James Robert Duggar, was engaged in his Arkananas Senate run, the 19 Kids and Counting patriarch had radically different opinions of incestuous individuals and rapists than those he applied to his own son after Josh molested five young children.

An archive of Duggar’s 2002 campaign web site, unearthed by Gawker, shows that candidate Duggar does not exactly apply the same principles to his family that he does to the rest of society.

That’s right, according to Jim Bob Duggar, “Rape and incest represent heinous crimes and as such should be treated as capital crimes.” In other words, Josh’s daddy campaigned on a platform that says the younger Duggar should be put to death for molesting his sisters.

Rather than murder his son for his crimes, or even properly report them to anyone who is not currently serving decades and decades and decades in prison for possession of child pornography, Duggar defended his son’s horrific actions. In a joint statement with his wife Michelle, Jim Bob wrote:

“Back 12 years ago our family went through one of the most difficult times of our lives. When Josh was a young teenager, he made some very bad mistakes, and we were shocked. We had tried to teach him right from wrong. That dark and difficult time caused us to seek God like never before.

Even though we would never choose to go through something so terrible, each one of our family members drew closer to God. We pray that as people watch our lives they see that we are not a perfect family. We have challenges and struggles every day. It is one of the reasons we treasure our faith so much because God’s kindness and goodness and forgiveness are extended to us – even though we are so undeserving. We hope somehow the story of our journey – the good times and the difficult times – cause you to see the kindness of God and learn that He can bring you through anything.”

Jim Bob and his wife addressed their son’s issues by enrolling him in good, old-fashioned Christian counseling at a center founded by a man who resigned after it came to light that he was grooming teenagers and young women for sex.

There, Josh Duggar learned that it was entirely his sisters’ fault that he molested them because of possible immodesty and evil friends. Since the revelation of Josh Duggar’s misdeeds, the right-wing hero has decided that God has forgiven him for his actions — and conservatives agree.  One relative even explained that anyone would molest a child, given a lack of consequences and the right opportunity.

“Jim Bob lost the Republican nomination for Senate to Arkansas’ incumbent Senator Tim Hutchinson,” Gawker’s Allie Jones notes. “His son Josh remained very much alive and went on to molest several underage girls including some of his sisters from 2002-2003.”
