Outgoing House Speaker John Boehner is burning his bridges, and he is not mincing his words when it comes to the right-wing extremists who have plotted against him.
In his first interview since his announcement, on CBS’s Face the Nation, the Speaker from Ohio chastised the fringe Republicans of Congress as “absolutely…unrealistic” in their approach to governing, comparing them to false prophets who promise to do things they cannot do.
When asked by host John Dickerson if Republicans were “unrealistic about what can be done in government,” Boehner enthusiastically exulted:
Absolutely, they’re unrealistic. But, you know, the Bible says beware of false prophets, and there are people out there spreading noise about how much can get done.
Boehner pivoted to the failed 2013 shutdown over defunding Obamacare as an example, saying:
This plan never had a chance. We got groups here in town, members of the House and Senate here in town, who whip people into a frenzy believing they can accomplish things that they know — they know! — are never going to happen.
When asked about how the Speaker felt about Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX), the architect of the 2013 shutdown, Boehner quipped as he sipped his coffee mug:
Listen, you can pick a lot of names out; I’ll let you choose ’em. I refer you to my remark at a fundraiser I made in August in Steamboat Springs, Colorado.
The remark Speaker Boehner is referring to? “Jackass.”
It looks like the American people are getting their first glimpse inside the world of the Congressional GOP: Hollow, empty promises with no chance of becoming reality. AKA – lies. Take note, voters in 2016. The Tea Party is all rhetoric, not action.
John Boehner, in a way, just called Ted Cruz a jackass on television. Where was this Speaker Boehner two years ago when the fanatics brought forth a shutdown on America? Perhaps if Boehner flexed his arms like he did on Face the Nation, a lot of headache could have been avoided.
Watch soon to be ex-Speaker John Boehner trash the extremist GOP:
