For most of us, it is quite obvious that Hillary Clinton mopped the floor with Donald Trump during their first debate. She was well-prepared. She spoke on policy. Her experience in public service shined through in her answers, which were framed with the all important context. She also challenged Trump with critique and criticism.
Donald Trump, on the other hand, came off as a sniffly, ill-prepared hot head who was easily flustered and lacks the experience to speak about matters of the nation and the world. His emotional charge grew as the night went on, only proving his self-proclaimed “good temperament” isn’t so presidential.
Donald Trump knows he is in danger. His desperation during the debate could be measured with each angry outburst and interruption. Post-debate it can be measured by his excuses.
While in the “spin room” after the debate, he told a CBS Reporter:
“They gave me a defective mic! Wonder, was that on purpose?”
So, rather than own his petulant performance during the debate, he is going to call attention to a faulty microphone which went unnoticed by the expected 100 million viewers. It is reported that the microphone had issues in the room, which were corrected, but the microphone did not impact the televised performance.
THAT is what caused him to lose his cool and ultimately the debate. Got it.
Hillary Clinton was asked this morning about Trump’s complaints about the microphone. Her response was spot on.
“Anybody who complains about the microphone is not having a good night.”
And, she’s right.
