Lately, Trump’s facade of a presidential campaign has gone from a mere Three Mile Island to a full-blown Hiroshima. Realizing that “Crooked Hillary” is totally kicking his ass in the polls, Trump has relied on nothing but debunked right-wing conspiracies and tweets. Well, Hillary took him to school yesterday in a most devastating smackdown.
Here’s a collection of some of the most blistering statements:
“He is taking hate groups mainstream and helping them take over the Republican Party.”
“This is someone who retweets white supremacists online, like the user who goes by the name “white-genocide-TM.” Trump took this fringe bigot with a few dozen followers and spread his message to 11 million people.
“When Trump was getting his start in business, he was sued by the Justice Department for refusing to rent apartments to black and Latino tenants. Three years later, the Justice Department took Trump back to court because he hadn’t changed.”
But what really stood out in her speech, however, was how she offered the few mainstream Republicans left, such as Paul Ryan, an opportunity to escape the sinking ship.
In what appeared to be the most specific speech detailing how she will govern, Hillary stated that she doesn’t intend to cast the entire Republican Party out along with Trump. She knows that she will have to work with many of them if she wishes to avoid the 8 years of solid obstruction that President Obama faced.
“Trump’s divisive rhetoric was like nothing we’ve heard before from a nominee for president of the United States from one of our two major parties, ” said Hillary in a first sign of reaching out to Republicans.
(Okay, I have some issues with that statement as I’m sure many other liberals do. I mean, Fox News has basically been on high alert throughout the entire Obama presidency. However, Clinton is correct in that Trump has opened up the door to levels of racism and vitriol not otherwise seen since Nazi Germany.)
“Even the Republican speaker of the House of Representatives, Paul Ryan, described that, and I quote, as ‘the textbook definition of a racist comment,’” she noted, in an olive branch to Ryan.
It’s quite clear if the Republican Party wants to win races this election year, it would has to cut ties with Trump. It appears Hillary just gave them an excellent opportunity to do so.
