A gun shop in suburban Chicago is facing backlash after announcing their plan to raffle off an AR-15 assault rifle and donate the proceeds to “benefit” victims of the horrific Orlando mass shooting.
The rifle being raffled is eerily similar to the one used by Omar Mateen in June to claim the lives of 49 innocent people in Pulse, an LGBT nightclub in Orlando, Florida.
The owners of Second Amendment Sports say they are conducting the raffle to stand by their fellow Americans and take a stand against terrorism.
According to the Chicago Tribune, proceeds from the $5 raffle will go into the OneOrlando Fund, and they plan to announce the winner in July. The owner also told the paper that he intends to contribute $2000 on top of all the money they raise.
I understand that there are different opinions out there,” Vic Santi, the store’s marketing director told the Chicago Tribune. “We don’t look at this as a gun issue. We look at this as a terrorism issue.
The Orlando attack, which is currently the largest mass shooting in U.S. history, has once again proven that mass shootings are good for the gun industry’s bottom line. Many stores report a huge surge in demand following each shooting.
These guns are weapons of war, meant to kill large numbers of people in a short time, which is what happened in Orlando. I find it very distasteful and offensive,” Colleen Dalley, executive director of the Illinois Council Against Handgun Violence told the Tribune.
There’s no doubt that NRA and right-wing nutjobs will attack anyone who dares criticizes this gun store’s “humanitarian” effort. They are intent on pushing their pro-gun agenda while mocking progressives.
These people do not care about the LGBT community or any shooting victims for that matter. They only care about their continued “freedom” to sell military grade death machines to the general population regardless the cost in human capital.
This, to them, is “the American way.”
