Republicans now have 2 big problems with their eternal crusade over Benghazi, Benghazi, Benghazi!
A former investigator for Republicans on the House Select Committee on Benghazi plans to file a complaint in court next month, stating that he was fired unlawfully, in part, because his superiors did not approve of his effort to conduct an actual investigation into the 2012 attack on the Benghazi diplomatic mission. Republicans were only interested in the role that the State Department and former Secretary Of State Hillary Clinton in the attack on the embassy.
This makes concrete the implications made recently by Republican Kevin McCarthy: 100 percent of the never-ending Benghazi hearings is nothing but a political hit-job against Hillary Clinton and they are probably illegally being conducted at this point.
Bradley F. Podliska, the former investigator and Major in the Air Force Reserve, also claims that the committee’s majority staff retaliated against him for taking leave for a few weeks to go on active duty. If they actually did this, they violated the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act of 1994, which Podliska plans to invoke in his complaint.
Republicans, never to be outdone by the truth, fired back at Podliska. They claimed that they terminated Podliska for:
…repeated efforts, of his own volition, to develop and direct committee resources to a Powerpoint ‘hit piece’ on members of the Obama administration, including former Secretary Clinton, that bore no relationship whatsoever to the committee’s current investigative tone, focus, or investigative plan.
The House Committee is working under mounting criticism and controversy for what critics say is a partisan witch hunt and waste of taxpayer dollars, in their use of Benghazi as some kind of political club to beat Hillary over the head with until election day.
The situation changed significantly in March, according to Major Podliska. After revelations that Mrs. Clinton relied exclusively on a private email server for her State Department correspondence, the committee became preoccupied with the State Department’s role in the controversy surrounding the Benghazi attack — and less interested in finding out the truth. In other words, it turned into a witch hunt as opposed to a legitimate, comprehensive investigation.
Republicans were also somehow skeptical of his necessity to serve on his active duty rotation, and another senior staff member questioned if he “really needs to go to Germany.”
Remember, Republicans always support our troops, right?
When he returned from active duty in late March, the rest of the committee was in full-blown anti-Hillary mode. Podliska continued a comprehensive and proper investigation, but was met with increasing resistance and blowback from him superiors because of it.
My thing was actually related to Hillary — I just wasn’t all in on Hillary,” he said in the interview. “I was finding other officials at other agencies that bore responsibility for the post-attack piece.
Podliska was eventually fired in June, after he refused to add in a video — that was aggressively attacking the Obama administration — to his presentation. He informed a fellow staffer it was not appropriate for the report.
The evidence against Republicans is getting particularly damning about the Benghazi investigation and the true motives for it. Hillary has already created her own attack ad against Republicans using the issue against them. When will they learn to stop making these monsters that they cannot control? In 2008 it was the Tea Party, in 2012 it was Benghazi. What will it be in 2016?
