The influential Franklin Graham, son of infamous evangelical preacher Billy Graham, told his Facebook audience that in response to Congress’ omnibus spending package he is leaving the GOP and registering as an Independent. One might read this and think it’s a huge blow to the Republican Party, but it really isn’t. Graham is still and uber Christian who hates anything progressive…
So why did he leave the GOP? Because they did nothing to stop fully funding Planned Parenthood in the spending bill. As he wrote on his Facebook:
Shame on the Republicans and the Democrats for passing such a wasteful spending bill last week. And to top it off, funding Planned Parenthood! A Huffington Post article called it ‘a big win for Planned Parenthood.’ I call it a big loss for America … Seeing and hearing Planned Parenthood talk nonchalantly about selling baby parts from aborted fetuses with utter disregard for human life is reminiscent of Joseph Mengele and the Nazi concentration camps … This is an example of why I have resigned from the Republican Party and declared myself Independent. I have no hope in the Republican Party, the Democratic Party, or Tea Party to do what is best for America.
So he’s not leaving the GOP for being a bunch of liars filled with xenophobic, angry bigotry. He’s not leaving the GOP because of the massive surveillance program that was put into the bill. He’s leaving them because they funded women’s healthcare. Oh the inhumanity.
Graham, who is president and CEO of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association expressed support for Mitt Romney in the 2012 election and publicly defended Russia’s ban on anything homosexual and in 2011 said Donald Trump was his preferred candidate for the presidency. I wonder if he still feels the same.
And of course, like every other insane preacher who’s on a political mission, Graham ended his whiny Facebook post with a call to action:
I want to challenge Christians, even pastors, across the country to pray about running for office where they can have an impact. We need mayors, country commissioners, city council members, school board members who will uphold biblical values.
In just a couple of weeks, I will begin going state by state to every capital in our nation to hold prayer rallies for our country and share this same challenge on the Decision America Tour.
Starting on January 5 in Des Moines, Iowa, Graham will actively begin evangelicals and political leaders away from the Republican Party, something that could spell trouble for Donald Trump and Ted Cruz, who are dependent on the evangelical vote.
Goodbye Franklin Graham, I’m sure the GOP will miss having another bigot on their side.
