If Republicans really want to know why Democrats keep accusing them of being “the stupid party,” this is a prime example.
It’s one thing to disagree with President Obama and his polices, but it’s another when he faced, and continues to face: The most obstruction ever unleashed on a sitting president, members of Congress going out of their way to oppose things they once supported just because he happens to agree and their ilk on The Fox News Lie Machine constantly muddying the waters with their nonstop nonsense.
Fox contributor Geraldo Rivera, who was smacked down by Ferguson protesters two years ago, is no exception. In fact, Rivera couldn’t have been more wrong today appearing on Outnumbered with sociopath Andrea Tantaros and Melissa Francis.
During the interview, Rivera had the nerve to say that the nation was not ready for a black president. He even admitted what he said would be controversial and asinine, but he said it anyways:
RIVERA: I think, and this just strictly my constitutionally-protected opinion, and I know you’ll get mad at me, but I think this. I think that what is clear is that the nation was not ready for a black president and I think that the gross divisions we suffer right now in this country are, when you strip away everything else–
FRANCIS: Because he’s black?
RIVERA: Let me finish. I stuck my neck out. Let me finish. When you strip away all of the gun rights and the, you know, terror all rest of it, what you have essentially is a nation divided between white people and everybody else in broad strokes. When you look at the groups that overwhelmingly favor the Democrats right now, the Asians, the Hispanics, the African-Americans, the Muslims, you see a nation where people have largely chosen up sides and if you strip away everything else, what you are going to find is a racial divide. It’s biggest, unaddressed issue. I think it is why we can’t deal with urban crime. It is why we are dysfunctional in terms of the ability to be bilateral, bicameral, bipartisan.
Oh boy, in my opinion, the stupid burns with this one. First off, what does that even mean? What would make the U.S. ready? Secondly, speak for yourself, Rivera. A majority of the country was ready — twice. And thirdly, there’s a reason why African Americans, Hispanics, Latinos, Muslims and Asians vote Democratic.
The only people who weren’t ready are your viewers.
Your party’s policies drive them away, not President Obama’s skin pigment. You guys learned that the hard way in 2012 and still have your heads buried in the sand about what to do.
So thank you, Rivera, for proving that that the GOP is still the party of stupid. For four years your party has been trying (and failing miserably) to reach out to minority voters and a broader public. Want to know why? Because comments like “Americas wasn’t ready for a black president” doesn’t bode well for minority voters, and it doesn’t bode well for the millions of people who were ready for him.
Fox News viewers weren’t ready. Hedge fund managers weren’t ready. Racist bigots in rural America weren’t ready. But the heart and soul of America was ready, and we proved it — twice.
