In what appears to be the first domino to fall, Mark Kirk, perhaps the most endangered Senator in the GOP (running against the Democrat Tammy Duckworth in Illinois) has withdrawn his support of the disgustingly vainglorious, racist cretin Donald Trump. Kirk’s statements add up to a stark, clear message: it doesn’t matter if sticking to his principles costs him this election, Trump is “dead wrong,” and “un-American.”
On Tuesday the Senator, who happens to also be disabled, said:
As the presidential campaign progressed, I was hoping the rhetoric would tone down and reflect a campaign that was inclusive, thoughtful and principled. While I oppose the Democratic nominee, Donald Trump’s latest statements, in context with past attacks on Hispanics, women and the disabled like me, make it certain that I cannot and will not support my party’s nominee for President regardless of the political impact on my candidacy or the Republican Party.

But Kirk’s scathing indictment didn’t stop there. he also took to twitter because the above message, which basically says “NO, I will not sell out my country to an unprincipled, un-American, asshole,” was missing something. This:
Given my military experience, Donald Trump does not have the temperament to command our military or our nuclear arsenal.

Many agree, the idea of the thin-skinned, self-described “counter-puncher” who has no diplomatic abilities that aren’t the kind used to sell flim-flam to the vulnerable, having a nuclear arsenal at his fingertips is enough to cause abject, rolling into the fetal position fear.

No matter how you see this, the hope that more politicians like this come forward and say that this country doesn’t need an authoritarian (read: fascist) who believes that only the rich are great.
Mark Kirk may be the first senator to actually rescind his endorsement, but if the GOP nominee’s continuous attempts to be the most hated person in the world continue he is sure not to be the last. Americans are not fooled, and even with the GOP’s unceasing efforts to attack Hillary Clinton for years, dredging up every action, inventing scandals and outright rumor-mongering, she continues to hold a lead over Trump in national polls.
Perhaps as the Republican establishment realizes that their excuse for a nominee isn’t going to win, we will see more and more like this.
