Mississippi’s decision to take its complete and utter stupid hatred of gays living content lives reached a tipping when its governor signed into law a measure that allows businesses to discriminate against the LGBT community. The last time I checked, gays like to buy crap too–and I don’t believe there’s a rainbow flag currency for them to use.
Ellen Degeneres isn’t known for engaging in heady politics and, by her own account, isn’t “very political at all.” But as a hugely popular entertainer who happens to be gay, she isn’t reluctant to express her views on virulently anti-LGBT policies. Combing her awkward and corky humor with heartfelt and genuine insights, Ellen wonderfully took down the Mississippi law.
Now, I’m not a political person, I’m really not. But this is not politics this is human rights. And I mean, when I see something wrong, I have to talk about it. It’s the same thing that I do when I see men wearing Spandex in line at Starbucks. It’s wrong and I need to discuss it.
So, this issue is very personal to me, obviously. I’m disappointed for several reasons. First of all, Mississippi is the only state I know how to spell. Second of all, that is the definition of discrimination.
Indeed, she can do much more than awkwardly dance and talk to kids.
