On Tuesday, Republicans on the Senate Judiciary Committee held a closed-door meeting to figure out what they were going to do when President Obama nominates a new justice for the Supreme Court. When they emerged from their meeting they told America that they are refusing to do their jobs and will not confirm or even hold a hearing for whomever Obama chooses to take Scalia’s seat. Majority Whip John Cornyn said:
We believe the American people need to decide who is going to make this appointment rather than a lame duck president.
Never mind the fact the America already decided who they want to make such a decision when they elected President Obama TWICE, the GOP is not going to do their job and we can’t make them. They would rather cripple the Supreme Court than put their political differences aside and do what is best for the country. Basically, they are doing exactly what they have been doing for the last seven years: nothing.
When President Obama heard about their pledge to ignore the checks and balances our founding fathers put into place, he put them do-nothing Senate on blast, tweeting

It is outrageous that this is even a discussion in the Senate. We elected Obama to serve us for EIGHT years, not seven and the Republican Party is completely ignoring the will of the people because they hate our president that much. Their obstructionism has gotten so out of control that the highest court in our nation will not be able to properly function because of them. How insane is that?
If you are one of those people who have pledged to stay home if the Democratic Party does not pick your favorite primary candidate, it’s time to grow up. Our country’s future is in our hands and we need to come together and fight for the common good. And if you are one of those Democrats who sat at home during the 2014 midterm elections, I blame you for this. Our party’s abysmal voter turnout needs to stop and we need to get off of our asses and vote. Had Democrats voted en masse in 2014, we wouldn’t have this problem. WE let Republicans gain control of the Senate by our own inaction.
Don’t let that happen in November or we are screwed.
