Donald Trump vs. The Media? Not Really

Like a bat out of hell, Donald Trump has led the way in the Republican field for practically his entire presidential campaign. However,  “The Donald” is not the only big winner of his unorthodox presidential campaign thus far. Quite arguably, the media has benefitted as much as anyone else has throughout the Trump’s campaign.

From non-stop coverage of Trump’s blatantly racist remarks to the reality show-esque political debates, you would be forgiven if you didn’t know that Trump lags behind his Democratic counterparts in a general election match-up.

However, despite the non-stop pandering to the biggest bully in the campaign. Conservatives believe that the media is conspiring against Donald Trump. Like a tale straight out of bizarro world, according to Independent Journal Review, 64.6 percent of likely Republican voters believe that the media is biased AGAINST Donald Trump.

Even the Independent Journal Review smugly remarks “well that tells you just about all of it”. Are you then conceding that you’ve been biased against Donald Trump. The Republican frontrunner has gone unchallenged throughout his campaign by both the conservative and moderate media. In fact, even MSNBC has given Trump a fairly easy ride compared other candidates, including Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders.

Don’t believe me?

Here are a few examples of how the media have shown their biased towards Donald Trump since he entered the race.

Recently, MSNBC allowed Donald Trump to unilaterally host a town hall in the same time slot of the CNN Republican town hall. The town hall was moderated by none other than Joe Scarborough. So deep is Scarborough’s favoritism for Trump, that he has had to fought off rumors of becoming Trump’s vice presidential pick.

The Intercept reported that the chief executive of CBS corporation, Les Moonves, gleefully remarked on the “phenomenal” prospects of gaining viewership and, of course, advertising dollars from both Donald Trump and candidates aiming to catch the frontrunner:

The more they spend, the better it is for us and: Go Donald! Keep getting out there! And, you know, this is fun, watching this, let them spend money on us, and we love having them in there. We’re looking forward to a very exciting political year in ’16.

Conservative talk show host Hugh Hewitt backed down after a fairly run of the mill question on foreign relations. However, Hewitt later backtracked from his “gotcha” question and concede that Donald Trump is the best interview a journalist can get.

Ironically, the only channel that seemed to have challenged Trump is Fox News. And even then, the half-hearted attempt to hurt the leading candidate of the GOP was quickly evaporated as soon as Trump dug in his heels and boycotted the second Fox News debate before Iowa.

As Donald Trump glides his way to becoming the Republican nominee for the general election, the media will milk the cash cow as long as they can. The pandering, the backtracking and the unlimited airtime is still not enough for 64.6 percent of likely GOP voters.

But then again, we are in bizarro world.
