Billionaire presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump is simply befuddled as to why so many people around the world think he’s a racist.
Sure he called Mexicans rapists and murderers, called for a ban on Muslims entering the U.S., openly mocked Asian people during a campaign speech, but hey, at least he has a great relationship with “the blacks,” right? Although Trump’s relationship with white supremacists seems to be a bit stronger, than his relationship with Ben Carson or Allen West aka “the blacks.”
Unfortunately, recently uncovered audio from the Howard Stern show in 2005 may prove problematic for Trump’s case to African-American voters in November. During the interview, Trump floated the concept of a unique twist for his show:
On The Apprentice there was a concept, okay, thrown out by some person, nine blacks against nine whites,” said Trump. “And it would be nine blacks against nine whites, all highly educated, very smart, strong, beautiful people. Do you like it?
Stern’s African-American co-host Robin Quivers didn’t think it a very good idea, she said that might start a riot.
However, Trump wouldn’t give up; he said, “It would be the highest-rated show on television.”
That’s when host Howard Stern questioned Trump on whether or not such a show could start a race war. The billionaire dismissed his concern stating:
Actually, I don’t think it would,” responded Trump. “I think that it would be handled very beautifully by me. Because, as you know, I’m very diplomatic…I’m a sensitive person. I also think you’d have 35 million people a night watching.
Trump then backtracked a bit, stating that the idea was pitched to him:
“Somehow I don’t think NBC is thrilled with the idea, with the concept,” he said.
Stern and Trump discussed the proposed show in more detail.
The talk show host asked if the African-Americans on the show would be “very dark blacks or light-skinned blacks.”
Assortment [of blacks],” Trump responded, “against whites.
Now here’s the best part, Trump added that all nine whites would be blonde. Feel free to insert your Nazi or Hitler joke here.
But after taking a few seconds to reconsider the implications of his stupid idea seriously, Trump seemed to cool to the idea:
There’s something wrong with it,” he said. “But I don’t know, maybe we should think about it.
