Donald Trump Tells NYT Editorial Board He’s Tricking His Supporters

The New York Times recently endorsed Democratic frontrunner Hillary Clinton and 8th place Republican John Kasich. While Clinton’s endorsement raved about her experience and also included glowing reviews about Bernie Sanders, John Kasich’s endorsement was overshadowed by none other than Donald Trump.

Of the eight paragraphs written for Kasich’s endorsement, only three focused on Kasich himself. The other five focused on the train wreck that is the Trump, Cruz and Rubio campaigns. But it’s what Donald Trump told the NYT editorial board (which they featured in the Kasich endorsement) that really raises eyebrows:

From deporting Mexican immigrants and barring Muslims to slapping a 45 percent tariff on Chinese imports, Mr. Trump invents his positions as he goes along. His supporters say they don’t care. What they may not know is how deliberately he is currying their favor. At a meeting with The Times’s editorial writers, Mr. Trump talked about the art of applause lines. “You know,” he said of his events, “if it gets a little boring, if I see people starting to sort of, maybe thinking about leaving, I can sort of tell the audience, I just say, ‘We will build the wall!’ and they go nuts.

So basically, Trump is just telling the people what they want to hear so they don’t become bored and ruin his shining moments on TV. So, no, Trump doesn’t “tell it like it is.” He tells it the way people want to hear it, and he will say anything to get not just their support, but their mere attention.

This is why Trump does so well with his supporters. They’re angry, bigoted ideologues. And if someone, anyone, starts talking sense, they tune out. Enter Donald Trump, who screams “let’s build a wall” without offering a realistic plan or budget, and the crowd goes wild. And he knows all too well that they don’t care about the truth. He speaks to them at a fourth grade reading level. He mocks their intelligence. He insults their commitment to his “cause.” Yet they still eat it up, and he goes to the New York Times editorial board and boasts about it. His blatant disregard for his supporters, the electorate, and the country is staggering.

The saddest part is that they won’t care, and they’ll continue to support this sack of hot air. They have become the most deceived, gullible people in the entire world.
