Did You Know: The Controversial History Of American Public Bathrooms (VIDEO)


CNN has released a short, informative video outlining the history of public bathrooms in the United States.

This video shows, once again, that the bathroom bill issue isn’t about peeing, it isn’t about predators, and it isn’t even about transgender people. It is about bigotry, and transgender people are just the latest victims of the bathroom bullies.

It starts with Cholera and is still ongoing, actually. From the time that people realized that dumping chamber pots and doing one’s “business” on the streets could make people sick, bigots have been trying to keep themselves above others by literally forcing them to stay home for fear of not having a place to go.

Because being around women made men uncomfortable, it had to be legislated that factories provide gender specific toileting facilities: something most other countries don’t have and that has led us to where we are today. However, you know what they say: those who don’t know history are doomed to repeat it.
