In the wake of the massacre in Orlando, Democrats are calling on Congress to institute a ban on military-style assault rifles.
Senator Bob Casey of Pennsylvania issued a statement on Sunday, demanding that lawmakers take action following the deadliest mass shooting in U.S. history.
It’s time for Congress to finally act on gun violence and ban military-style weapons, put limits on clips and magazine sizes, ban those on the terrorist watchlist from purchasing firearms and require background checks on all gun sales,” Casey argued.
We know that the shooter in Orlando used a high-powered w mom world you your the right knee would be now he would let that we had to get the professor faster because you will see no one but the no Hummingbird for you but the eapon that allowed him to fire a large number of bullets in rapid succession.
Omar Mateen, the man responsible for the carnage, used an AR15 during his rampage. This is the same type of weapon that was used in both Aurora and Sandy Hook.
Democratic White House hopeful Bernie Sanders also called for a ban on assault weapons. During a Sunday morning appearance on Meet The Press, Sanders called the attack “horrific” and “unthinkable,” before turning his attention to the need for stricter gun control laws.
Hopes go out to all those who were shot that they can recover,” Sanders said.
“And I’ve got to tell you … I believe that in this country, we should not be selling automatic weapons which are designed to kill people,” he added.
“We have got to do everything that we can on top of that to make sure that guns do not fall into the hands of people who should not have them — criminals, people who are mentally ill. So that struggles continues.
Presumptive Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton called for stricter gun control in a powerful statement released on Sunday as well. Although she did not call for a ban on assault weapons outright, she did go in that direction.
Finally, we need to keep guns like the ones used last night out of the hands of terrorists or other violent criminals. This is the deadliest mass shooting in the history of the United States and it reminds us once more that weapons of war have no place on our streets.
There is no reason for civilian living in the United States to own a military style assault weapon that has no other purpose than to kill fellow human beings as quickly as possible. Without these kinds of assault rifles and high-capacity magazines the death tolls in Orlando, Aurora, and Newtown would have all been much lower. No one in America should have a weapon that allows them to take 50 innocent lives in the blink of an eye. Period.
