According to Corey Lewandowski, who is Donald Trump’s former campaign manager, outrage over the presumptive Republican nominee’s anti-Semitic tweet featuring the Star of David is “political correctness run amok.”
During an appearance on CNN’s State of the Union, Lewandowski vehemently defended Trump’s latest display of bigotry and slammed those who have called out his blatant anti-Semitism.
The bottom line is this is political correctness run amok. If this were to be a star next to Hillary Clinton without the cash behind it, no one would be questioning this.
This is the mainstream media reading into something.
On Saturday, Trump tweeted out an anti-Semitic image of Hillary Clinton with the slogan “history made.” The presumptive Democratic nominee’s picture was superimposed on a background of $100 bills with the words “Most Corrupt Candidate Ever!” written on a red six-pointed star. The backlash began almost immediately, with many pointing out that the star closely resembled the Star of David, which is strongly associated with Judaism and appears on the flag of Israel.
Trump deleted the tweet amid strong criticism of his bigoted post and replaced the image which a new one that had a red circle instead of the Star of David. They were in such a hurry to replace the picture that the points of the star were still able to be seen under the circle. Not long after, he deleted that tweet as well.
Lewandowski’s claim that the backlash from the tweet is nothing more than “political correctness” is even more absurd when you consider where the offensive meme came from. After some digging, it was discovered that “the image was first featured on /pol/ — an Internet message board for the alt-right, a digital movement of neo-Nazis, anti-Semites, and white supremacists.” Because the image hasn’t been spread around other sites very much, the likelihood is that whoever found the image for Trump’s tweet got it straight from the original source.
Many, including Keith Olbermann, are calling for Lewandowski to be fired.
