Conservatives are loving it! It’s like celebrating that long-awaited win after season after season of losses. Or so I surmise - I’m not really a sports fan.
For years, liberals have had a stronghold on the comedy thing. We have. Let’s face it, we are quite a funny group. We have the likes of Jon Stewart, Stephen Colbert, Bill Maher, Saturday Night Live (for the most part) — yeah, we are the TBS of politics.
So, when Alex Trebek set up those pins, Becky Sullivan clearly had no other choice but to knock them down.
The flower pictured here is called this, also a disparaging term for people on the political left.
What is a pansy?
Oh yeah, she went there. She called liberals pansies — rather than the appropriate flower: bleeding heart — and lost the $6,000 wager.
Watch an NPR producer call liberal pansies:
Of course, Fox News commenters had some fun with their 15 minutes of pop culture hilarity. Can you really blame them? A moment like this has only come along. . . once. Ever. This was the Halley’s Comet of conservative humor.
Sullivan, who is a producer for NPR’s show All Things Considered, tweeted an explanation for the Jeopardy response:
OK here's the deal with pansy: I actually didn't know bleeding heart was a flower. I just put the only flower I knew that was also an insult
— Becky Sullivan (@becsully) October 24, 2015
So, there you have it. Don’t worry fellow bleeding heart liberal pansies — we still have the word teabagger.
Oh, and then there is this guy. Just because:
Well. That escalated quickly.
