Republican primary front-runner Donald Trump has enjoyed tremendous success after attacking his Republican rivals with childish nicknames and taunts. Trump labeled Florida Senator Marco Rubio, “little Marco.” He labeled former Florida Governor Jeb Bush as “Low Energy Jeb.” And he nicknamed his current strongest rival, Texas Senator Ted Cruz, as “Lyin’ Ted.”
On Saturday, during a rally in Watertown, New York, Trump unveiled the secret weapon that he plans to use to defeat Hillary Clinton in November. The billionaire gave Clinton a childish nickname.
So I’m self funding. All of this is mine. When I fly in, it’s on my dime right, it’s on mine. And what does that mean? That means I’m not controlled by the special interests, by the lobbyists,” Trump said while campaigning in New York. “They control crooked Hillary and they control lyin’ Ted Cruz right? They control lyin’ Ted.
Sunday, on ABC’s This Week Hillary Clinton, stated, “I can take care of myself,” in response to Trump’s latest “devasting” name calling attack. She then went on to thoroughly dissect Trump’s statement:
What I’m concerned about is how he goes after everybody else. He goes after women. He goes after Muslims. He goes after immigrants. He goes after people with disabilities. He is hurting our unity at home. He is undermining the values that we stand for in New York and across America. And he’s hurting us around the world
Trump has yet to find a successful attack strategy against the former Secretary of State. He received a lot of political heat from comments he made in December concerning Clinton’s bathroom break during a Democratic debate.
And earlier this year, Trump went after Clinton by attacking her husband, former President Bill Clinton. Trump said she was “married to an abuser. A woman claimed rape and all sorts of things. I mean, horrible things.” Many people were quick to point out that Trump’s ex-wife, Ivana Trump, also accused him of abuse. She even inferred that intimate relations with Trump felt like a sexual assault.
As far as the adjective “crooked” is concerned, Trump’s been named in at least 169 lawsuits. In fact, it’s hard to think of many Trump business ventures in which he had not been involved in a lawsuit. The billionaire’s been sued by undocumented P0lish immigrants who worked illegally while building Trump Tower in New York. Trump’s currently being sued by former students from his now defunct “Trump University” program, who claim that they were scammed out of thousands of dollars.
A recent ABC poll shows Hillary Clinton defeating Trump in a general election by ten points. Many speculate that by November, American voters will begin to focus more on Trump’s controversial statements and policies, creating a scenario where Republicans could lose the White House by a record-setting wide margin.
