Climate Denying Republicans Who Voted Against Sandy Aid Now BEGGING For Big Gov Money In Louisiana

Remember how Superstorm Sandy ravaged the state of New Jersey, causing billions of dollars in damage? And remember how Republicans in Congress fought against providing the state federal aid to the damaged areas because it was government overreach? Suddenly they have a different tune.

It seems the same three Louisiana Republican congressmen who so callously voted against a $50.5-billion relief package for the victims of Superstorm Sandy are now begging for Uncle Sam to bail out their flood-ravaged state of Louisiana. Rep. Steve Scalise (R-LA),  Senator Bill Cassidy (R-LA), and Rep. John Fleming (R-LA) all stymied aid to the suffering people of New Jersey during the most devastating storm in its history.

“Paying for disasters and being fiscally responsible are not mutually exclusive,” said Rep. Steve Scalise (R-La.) said in 2013, arguing any money spent on helping Americans rebuild their lives should come from budget cuts to social programs elsewhere. Now Scalise has his signature on a letter demanding President Obama help his state.

And if you didn’t think these three stooges couldn’t get any possibly worse, they’re all climate-change deniers. They literally can’t understand what is going on in front of their faces.

Here’s a portion of the letter they sent President Obama:

Dear President Obama,

We are writing to express our support for Governor Edwards’ request for a federal disaster declaration for the State of Louisiana effective August 14, 2016, as a result of the severe storms and flooding that began on Friday, August 12, 2016.

Last week a strong storm system brought showers and thunderstorms that continue to persist across most of the State today. This storm has led to severe flooding, resulting in significant damages and the loss of property and life.

As of today, reports from the National Weather Service (NWS) indicate that river stations throughout Louisiana have already exceeded flood stage, and in some areas this exceeds the 500-year flood. Throughout south and central Louisiana numerous river basins are currently experiencing major floods.

Obviously, the economically dispossessed and even better off people of Louisiana deserve much-needed federal assistance. But somehow government operating in its most basic form, like being there during natural disasters, is now virtually impossible. Severely deranged and obstructionist Republicans have shown that they care about the lives of citizens ONLY when it personally affects them.
