Chelsea Clinton delivered a blistering take down of Donald Trump following the threats he made during the first presidential debate to attack her mother by using Bill Clinton’s past infidelity as a cheap political weapon.
“Well, my reaction to that is just what my reaction has been kind of every time Trump has gone after my mom or my family, which is that it’s a distraction from his inability to talk about what’s actually at stake in this election,” Chelsea said.
She then listed off various areas of policy that Trump is completely unprepared to discuss, let alone debate — including national security and rising college tuition costs. God forbid he actually has to deal with these issues as president.
Following the debate on Monday night, Trump insinuated that he had planned to use Bill Clinton’s extramarital affairs to attack his rival, Hillary Clinton. He also suggested that he chose not to do so because of Chelsea’s presence. What a nice guy…
“I was going to say something extremely rough to Hillary, her family, and I said to myself, ‘I can’t do it. I just can’t do it,'” he said. “It’s inappropriate, it’s not nice.”
But Chelsea was unfazed by the billionaire bully’s threats.
“Candidly, I don’t remember a time in my life when my parents and my family weren’t being attacked,” she said. “So it just sort of seems to be in that tradition, unfortunately.”
Trump later confirmed that Bill’s infidelities were indeed what he was referring to and his son, Eric Trump, is just ever so proud of dear old dad. He said that it took great “courage” for his father to choose not to bring up the affairs on the debate stage and added that the moment was something he would “always remember.”
