When asked the question, “What’s your biggest weakness,” the best thing to do is answer truthfully, and then explain how you’re working on that weakness. That was the first question of the night for the candidates in the main GOP debate, and Carly Fiorina, in typical, I-have-no-idea-what-I’m-doing-here fashion, said that her biggest weakness was not smiling enough in the last debate.
With that response was hearty laughter as she gave the audience a huge smile! Because women are totally supposed to smile at all times while in the spotlight, while men must look all serious. That’s how you become president if you’re a woman. That’s how you’re taken seriously if you’re a woman. You smile. What Fiorina needed to do was explain what her biggest weakness is (and trust us, there are a lot of them), and then explain how she’s going to overcome that in the months ahead, and in the White House if necessary.
The purpose of that question is to show a hint of humanity. We’re human, we all have our weaknesses. We all have things we need to work on. What Fiorina just did was try to appear like she’s perfect when it comes to what matters, and that all her weaknesses are stereotypical, superficial female things, like not smiling enough.
Either that, or she thought she would make a joke when she needed to give a serious answer. Please.
