Bill Maher, the only watchable and hard-hitting late night quipster left besides Stephen Colbert, was in full-form during his show’s return to HBO. His hiatus, although brief, felt like waiting for rain during a drought. But the wait is over!
Kicking off his return to Real Time with Bill Maher, the late night host began by interviewing Kellyanne Conway, Donald Trump‘s campaign manager and longtime guest on his show. Conway must be Ann Coulter’s mother from another mother as she has a scary ability to support horribly offensive crap without even breaking a sweat. But if there was anyone willing to stare into the eye of the beast and squirt lemon juice at it, it’s Maher.
“You are enabling pure evil,” Maher immediately said to Conway like it were his last words.
Isn’t it nice when you don’t have to rely on sycophantic media hacks like Matt Lauer to cut to the chase?
Maher then went on to blast Trump for the limitless number of lies he’s told on the campaign trail, quipping “I don’t have time to go through all of his lies, we only have an hour.” And when Conway goaded Maher into somehow conceding that Trump is going to win by saying that Maher seemed “nervous,” Maher explained it thusly: ” It’s not because Trump is good, it’s because people are stupid.”
Indeed, Trump and his basket full of deplorables are a potent force, immune to all reason and facts. They’re a group of horribly uninformed and angry white guys, and Trump is more than willing to exploit their white rage.
But then came a moment when you had to put down whatever you’re doing and question the very nature of existence. Conway, referring to Clinton, told Maher, “I can’t support someone who lies for a living.” Maher couldn’t help but laugh at that. Heck, you could hear the rumblings of faint laughter from the planet Mars following that most unaware statement.
