Ouch, this is going to hurt. NBC News is reporting that they have acquired copies of emails sent to the Trump campaign from two major donors who are now asking for refunds.
One donor wrote:
“I cannot express my disappointment enough regarding the recent events surrounding Mr. Trump. . .I regret coming to the Trump support event, and in particular allowing my son to be a part of it. I respectfully request that my money be refunded.”
“I can not (sic) support a sexist man. I have three young children and will not support a crude sexist man. I expect a refund of my donation. Please process immediately and I thank you for your help.”
NBC reports that these two donors have helped raise tens of thousands of dollars through a bundler, which a person who raises money through their own network of contacts for a political campaign. This specific bundler who spoke to reporters anonymously said he has raised over $1 million for the Trump campaign, but will no longer be doing so. He notified the Trump Victory leaders that he has raised his last buck for the candidate.
“I give up. I’m totally walking out and disappointed, and the last 72 hours I have lost sleep over it.”
I think the question most of us are asking is where were these people prior to Donald Trump’s admittance to sexually assaulting women? While the comments heard on that tape were vile, the man has built an entire campaign on vile comments to stoke the embers of hate within his supporters.
While it’s certainly good that they’ve come to their senses now, it seems a bit late in the game. But, better late than never, I suppose.
The Trump campaign is denying that they have received any requests for refunds.
They probably shouldn’t hold their breath waiting for that refund. It’s unlikely that the check will ever be in the mail.
