Ben Carson Shows His Ignorance: Claims Pledge Of Allegiance Proves We Are A Christian Nation

Ben Carson thinks that because we changed the Pledge of Allegiance in 1954 to include “under God”, because conservative fascists were sweeping the nation with communist panic, it is proof we are a Christian nation.

He also thinks our founding documents are evidence for this as well. Let’s think about this all for a moment, because Ben Carson can’t stop saying how much he loves the Constitution of the United States.

1: The Establishment Clause reads exactly like this: Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof…

2: The Pledge of Allegiance was first composed in 1892 and formally adopted in 1945. Somehow we survived without “under God” in it for half a century.

It really is difficult to understand how every Republican loves the Constitution more than their own life, but they literally know nothing of it, how it works, or any of the detail in it.

Carson, a Seventh Day Adventist, told the gathering at the Free Chapel in Gainesville that, if elected president, he would place God at the center of American culture and politics.

‘The pledge of allegiance to our flag says we are one nation under God,’ he said. ‘Many courtrooms in the land on the wall it says ‘In God We Trust.’ Every coin in our pocket, every bill in our wallet says ‘In God We Trust.’’

‘In God We Trust’ has been used on coins since 1864 and first appeared on paper currency in 1957.

Carson continued:

‘So if it’s in our founding documents, it’s in our pledges, in our courts and it’s on our money, but we’re not supposed to talk about it, what in the world is that?’ Carson said. ‘In medicine it’s called schizophrenia — and I, for one, am simply not willing to kick God to the curb.’

My god Ben…NO, it is NOT in our founding documents. If anything is in there about “God” it is to say that our government will not establish him as our patron deity. It shouldn’t be in our money and it shouldn’t be in our pledge. Period. End of story. This is all just one more reason why Democrats MUST vote in every election because every progressive vote not cast is one more for Republicans.
