Former presidential candidate turned Trump supporter Ben Carson stunned CNN anchors John Berman and Kate Bolduan, leaving them momentarily speechless after he suggested that Berman probably had a criminal record.
Berman asked Carson how he could justify the fact that Trump’s campaign manager Corey Lewandowski is still working with the campaign even though he was arrested and charged with battery after assaulting a female reporter during a press conference.
Berman noted that many people thought Lewandowski should have been fired from his position following the incident, and he asked the former neurosurgeon if he thought Lewandowski should still be employed with the Republican frontrunner’s campaign.
Well, I mean, a lot of people have been charged with various things,” Carson responded. “That doesn’t necessarily mean we need to demonize them. You’ve probably been charged with something too, maybe with a misdemeanor or something. It doesn’t mean you’re an evil, horrible person.
Berman and Bolduan stared at each other in utter shock for a few moments, clearly trying to process the words that had just fallen out of Carson’s mouth. It presumably took them a minute because, after all, isn’t every day that politicians accuse news anchors of having criminal records on the air in a casual exchange about a presidential election.
