Proving that he is the “family values” candidate, Donald Trump called a lawyer — a breastfeeding mother — “disgusting” when she asked to take a break to pump milk to feed her three-month-old daughter.
In 2011, lawyer Elizabeth Beck was questioning Trump during a deposition relative to a failed Florida real estate project. Prior to the deposition, Ms. Beck had negotiated taking such breaks with opposing counsel.
Apparently Mr. Trump’s lawyers hadn’t clued him in, and when Ms. Beck asked for a “medical break” in order to pump breast milk for her child, Trump blew a gasket.
“[Trump] got up, his face got red, he shook his finger at me and he screamed, ‘You’re disgusting, you’re disgusting,’ and he ran out of there,’ Beck said. She called his behavior ‘an absolute meltdown.’
Mr. Trump’s attorney, Alan Garten, stated that Trump’s reaction “was in no way a statement about her decision to breastfeed or pump. It was solely the fact that she was appearing to do it in the middle of a deposition.”
Garten then stated that Ms. Beck was using the pumping as an “excuse” to obtain extra time to come up with further questions for Mr.Trump. So now Trump’s attorneys can read minds? He certainly does hire the best, doesn’t he?
Tweeting today, Trump went into “attack mode,” claiming that Ms. Beck wanted to breast pump in front of him (an allegation Ms. Beck denies). Veering sadly off course, as he is wont to do, Trump then went on to state:
“Lawyer Elizabeth Beck did a terrible job against me, she lost (I even got legal fees). I loved beating her, she was easy.”
There’s blowing and then there’s sucking. This writer believes Trump has a foot firmly embedded in both camps.
