Americans Petition White House: File Charges Against 47 GOP Saboteurs - Have You Signed?

The GOP has gone too far. Obstructionism and legislative trickery are one thing, but attempting to sabotage a diplomatic mission and shape foreign policy behind the President’s back is not only reprehensible, it’s against the law.

The Logan Act of 1799 forbids unauthorized citizens from negotiating with foreign governments. Being a United States Senator, or a coalition of them, doesn’t give you that authority. Violating the Logan Act is a felony.

The law states:

Any citizen of the United States, wherever he may be, who, without authority of the United States, directly or indirectly commences or carries on any correspondence or intercourse with any foreign government or any officer or agent thereof, with intent to influence the measures or conduct of any foreign government or of any officer or agent thereof, in relation to any disputes or controversies with the United States, or to defeat the measures of the United States, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than three years, or both.

American Citizens have begun a petition on Whitehouse.gov to have these saboteurs charged for their crimes. In order for the White House to consider a petition it must have 100,000 signatures. the petition is well beyond that in under two days. Signing the petition now will only strengthen the position and add credibility to the movement.

According to the petition:

On March 9th, 2015, forty-seven United States Senators committed a treasonous offense when they decided to violate the Logan Act, a 1799 law which forbids unauthorized citizens from negotiating with foreign governments. Violation of the Logan Act is a felony, punishable under federal law with imprisonment of up to three years.

At a time when the United States government is attempting to reach a potential nuclear agreement with the Iranian government, 47 Senators saw fit to instead issue a condescending letter to the Iranian government stating that any agreement brokered by our President would not be upheld once the president leaves office.

This is a clear violation of federal law. In attempting to undermine our own nation, these 47 senators have committed treason.

The American people are tired of the games, tired of the obstruction, and tired of the GOP. They have not only embarrassed us here at home with their wars on the poor, minorities and women, they have now embarrassed us on the International Stage.

Rise up and tell the President you’re not going to stand for it! Sign the petition HERE.

All I have to say is…

  • CleverBev

Treason can only come from “within!”

    • Rhonda Warmack Houston

CleverBev, Treason begins from within, but with that saying, so comes the one that “Actions Speak Louder than Word”, I say that treason can indeed, be shown to be ‘acted out’ as well after a thought flows, and the ‘follow through’ is even more serious, because one CAN’T TAKE IT BACK, ONCE IT HAS BEEN DONE. When one thinks a negative, that negative usually surfaces and shows its self eventually, as the day or interchange goes on.

The Republican Party let itself be taken over by right-wing and religious extremists, gun nutz, and hard core Racists. It is so dominated now that any decent person left in the party hardly dares speak out. Their evil twisted hate for our President has brought us to the brink of anarchy. Unsatisfied with blocking his every effort toward domestic progress, Republicans went abroad this week in an unprecedented meddling in foreign affairs with their dangerous intrusion into delicate negotiations the President is having with Iran on Nuclear issues. If they continue their brainless pursuit of hate at all cost, it’s the country that will pay.

Domestic progress?? Taking fast to the cliff of financial ruin is progress in the wrong direction!

  • Bruce

    You fail to understand! IOKIYAR

Left wing extremist are taking this country down. We need to elect a real leader in 2016

    • KSC

We, the rest of the world, fear and tremble if you are going to elect a “real” leader. Your current “unreal” leader and your previous “real” leader has left so much carnage, destruction and chaos. We could do with a little rest.

      • Bob Knows

A little fear and trembling can be a good thing in some areas.

    • Paul in Buffalo

There is a weird but almost comical reason BHO was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize before he got his first paycheck as president. He wasn’t George Bush!

      • Rhonda Warmack Houston

Paul in Buffalo, I hate to burst you bubble and your NON-fact above, but the President received his Nobel Peace Prize Award after he WAS President. Where were you when this happened…in Russia ?

      • Bob Knows

Not a fan of what Bush and our senators and congress decided to do in Iraq but yeah that award did make the Nobel peace prize a joke.

    • Rhonda Warmack Houston

Bob Knows, You need to re-evaluate you last statement and then, I’d like to know where below the Mason-Dixon line that you learned your view on the world as to who’s fault that 47 of the other party, not related to the the President, were the ones who signed, licked and sealed that letter that went to the top official of Iran (who I might add has a PhD, which is more education than all of those 47 who signed that letter ?

      • Bob Knows

I think a better question is where in the world O learned his world view. Your reply demonstrates the arrogant attitude of leftists.

  • Rhonda Warmack Houston

The author of this piece of journalism is Charles Topher and I want you to know that as an American navy veteran, still a navy wife who is retired now, and who researches someone about each and everyone of those in Congress, so that I may remain alive and well and know what is really happening to my country, your reference to the Logan Act of 1799 can ONLY be used to prosecute those who committed treason ‘if we were at war’. Thus, for ALL of these Congressmen to be actually nailed with this offense, there will be having to find some already existing war Act to use. Too, since this Act is of such an early part of the country’s existence, this situation which these GOP turds will have to have some other up to date Act apply to them. I’m sure the DOD or the Pentago will have this information at their finger tips. I personally can not wait to hear what will infact happen to all of these truds. Tom Cotton not only now is a Arkansas senator who has done nothing for those who sent him to represent them, but now the honorable Cotton will be part of the lobbying group which represent the 400 corporations which is attached to our government as well as a Fox News participator. I’m very confident too, that the largest ower and most profit holder within this same complex, the honorable John McCain, who makes enough to pay his lobbyists to lobby Washington, was Tom Cotton’s mentor and conspirator in this treasonous action because if one views the first photo taken of Cotton standing out and declaring he wrote the original letter, John McCain was standing right in back of Cotton, as ‘a governmental support’ within the picture. (McCain owns four homes within this nation and (13) thirteen cars, which any American would be happy to have merely one of each of these. Too, now, since that second secret rider, which a republican was given credit for later on because of one of their own gave out his GOP name, that weakened the Dodd-Frank Law, which broke down the complete separation between the people and Wall Street’, but was not caught actually doing, (but now the number of GOP secret riders have increased to the count of three, from yesterday’s ‘caught secret rider by Harry Reid took place, and I’m sure others are aware of as well) We can assume now, that when someone desperately wants to go to Washington to represent the people, it is truly more realistically because they want to take care of and better themselves. Will the voters begin checking out who they are actually voting for and will anyone really, actually want any Republican to occupy any seat which is so close to ‘the people’s money’ in 2016 ?

    • Rhonda Warmack Houston

The first secret rider placed on to a bill ‘for the people’ by the GOP put forth was that the GMO had to be used within all America’s crops which we eat but no labels wanted to be placed upon the food that came from these GMO crops. One of the main ingredience of the GMO is that of Agent Orange which was originally dropped on Vietnam veterans which penetrated into their skin and ultimately murdered them. This same Agent Orange is a great part of the GMO used in Monsanto. This use has finally been terminated. I body-escorted a number of those Vietnam soldiers home to their family and funeral as well as had to stay for each funeral, and might add that within every experience, I Never Heard the Voice of god within any of those churches. Thus, thus the use of the GMO products was for the money. And you will notice from above, it will and has always been about the MONEY for the old white men/GOP.

  • Rhonda Warmack Houston

Bruce, Would you call that total loss of credibility? How do you think with this GOP killing its own party off with such poor and treasonous actions that they can look to be voted for in 2016 ?

    • Bruce

Everyone of them will probably be elected and their numbers will increase. Americans have become very simpleminded people of late.

  • Leo Memolo

It’s not treason you ignorant asshats. No one has EVER been prosecuted under the Logan Act in it’s whole existence. Get over your obvious partisan bullshit. Learn something about the Logan Act before you open your pie holes.
