According to the CEO of a public polling firm, millions of Trump voters cast a vote for their own economic slavery in November.
Tom Bonier, chief executive officer of Targetsmart, shared the disturbing results of a report which concluded that “almost 20,000,000 Trump voters would lose time and a half overtime,” after Republicans reverse President Obama’s recent overtime regulations.
In May, President Obama signed an executive order that extended overtime pay for millions of workers.
Before the order, companies would not pay certain salaried employees overtime if they worked over 40 hours a week. The previous threshold after which employers could stop paying overtime pay was $23,660. After Obama’s order takes effect on Dec. 1, the threshold will double to $47,476.
Under Obama’s new regulation companies will no longer be able to work salaried employees obscenely long hours for a static amount of compensation. For years, low to mid-level managers and non-managers have slaved away on jobs, working long hours while struggling to balance their families and careers and being paid peanuts.
From The Huffington Post:
“Passed during the Great Depression, America’s overtime law was meant to protect workers from being worked too long and paid too little. The rules guarantee that workers get paid extra when they work extra. The rules also discourage employers from working employees long hours by making it more expensive to do so, through a time-and-a-half premium.
But under the current regulations, many working-class employees who earn above the low salary threshold are classified as “managers” and therefore don’t have overtime rights. Employers have an incentive to pile work onto these employees, since their extra time essentially comes for free. As a result, in retail some store managers will clock 60, 70 or even 80 hours, but only take home a modest salary in the $30,000 range.”
In many cases, workers would wind up making less than minimum wage after they calculated their hours and extra work-related expenses.
Now, according to Bonier, that way of life for millions of workers will not be changing anytime soon.

According to Politico, House Republicans are poised to dismantle Obama’s regulations.
“We have heard over the past year that it would have truly dramatically bad effects, not just on employers but on employees across the country,” Rep. Bradley Byrne (R-AL) told Politico. “I can give you the names of a ton of private-sector businesses who will either have to eat that cost or pass that cost on to their customers.”
Exit polls taken during the presidential election revealed that 41 percent of Trump’s 61 million voters were people who made less than $50,000 a year.
Trump voters will mostly be remembered for taking the expression “cutting off your nose to spite your face” to a new level in 2016.
